Cutrite blades have for years been making a name for themselves in Australasia.

We manufacture a range of harvester blades for international market, mower blades and flails for the domestic market. Quality, reliability and competitive pricing have made them a leading light in the Agricultural sector throughout the region.

Through continuous innovation in the design and development, and a close connection with our client base enable us to provide a line of harvester blade products of high performance and quality pricing. Cutrite blades are now being used and trusted in the USA, Thailand, Japan, Mauritius, Africa, Papua New Guinea and Australia.

With a client base of around 1500, we sell direct to farms all over Australia and New Zealand using agents which are based in multiple areas of the country.
Not relying on other marketing companies, we market our own products. This enables us to listen to feedback and monitor the performance of our products and quickly make changes and improvements when required to give the customers what they want. This also ensures product development and design of new products that satisfy clients’ needs.

At Cutrite, feedbacks from customers are extremely valuable in our product development. With an Australian 1800 number that will get you directly to our office in New Zealand, we welcome any comments and feedback from you!

Development

The Sugar Cane industry worldwide continues to expand but more importantly there is a trend towards mechanical harvesting as can be seen in the 1992 publication “An Assessment of the International Market for Cane Harvesters.

At Robertson’s we develop our own products and design and build our own tooling.

We have people in our Tool Room who have worked for the company for more than 20 years and we learn from our own mistakes, so over the years we have developed a team with specialised skills in tool making, blade manufacture and heat treatment of steels, which in our opinion are second to none.

Manufacturing

We are constantly revising our manufacturing methods and have the facilities to modify and improve our manufacturing processes without delay. We are constantly looking for new technologies, types of steel and use the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research to help us with research.

A test in Africa showed our blades to be the top performers. They were also the cheapest. We find this very gratifying knowing the hard work that we have put into achieving and maintaining our quality.

here is a typical process for the manufacture of a Cutrite Harvester Blade - without giving away too many secrets!

  • Raw Material is imported from mills in Japan and Australia. Typically we have to allow 4 to 5 months lead time.
  • The heat treatment method we use is a two stage quench and temper process.
  • The steel blank is heated in a gas fired, atmospherically controlled, rotary hearth oven to a temperature above its lower critical level.
  • It is then hot forged in a 260 tonne press before quenching in an oil bath. At this stage the blade is glass-hard but brittle, and would be useless as a blade.
  • The blade is then washed and stacked on a cradle before tempering in our airflow oven. Temperatures in this oven are critical to obtain a high performance blade (we hold the temperatures within 2° for four hours. This gives the blade the desired toughness). The process is carefully controlled and monitored by independent graph recorders and Branell Hardness Tests. Each batch is given a ‘Batch Number’.
  • Purchasers of the blades will notice a number on each box. It allows us to analyse blade performance in the field and to go back and check the heat treatment, the operator, the steel batch and its test certificates supplied by the mill.
  • The blades are then ready to be sent to our customers.
